JustFitness 3.0

Stage 1 of 3 Complete

8 June 2022

The Gist

  • The app is hosted at lift.justfitness.io.
  • Some exercises may require a minor change in the tracks setting.
  • Pushing toward Android release

New Subdomain

The web version of JustFitness is out and is hosted at lift.justfitness.io. All fitness data was successfully imported into the new system without a hitch. The old data remains intact and unchanged in separate database tables. As stated in the Almost Ready post, the app subdomain is still available, but will be taken offline upon the release of the Android version. Just as a reminder, I've removed the Progressive Web App functionality, which means the app no longer has offline support. Offline support will be handled in the mobile counterparts.

Why the change?

The JustFitness domain doesn't have to only include fitness related applications. The app on lift solves the pain point of spending too much time planning workouts on my phone. In discovering, building, and iterating upon the solution; I've found myself in a similar situation with another problem worth solving. Now seems like the best opportunity to allocate name spaces for other ideas. For example, if I wanted to make a running or nutrition app, I could host them on run or eat subdomains.

Just to be clear. I am not working on another project.

You May Want to Update a Few Exercises

You may want to change the tracking setting for a few exercises. For example, let's say you only need to log reps for an exercise titled "Hanging Leg Raises". The previous iterations of the app would log a weight of 0 for every set. Version 3 now allows you to control what you track and select "Nothing" as the secondary parameter to correctly identify it as a reps only exercise. Yes, it's minor; but it was one of the things that bothered me, so I assumed it would bother you as well.

What's Next?

With Stage 1 out of the way. My full attention is now drawn to Android distribution. Low priority issues like UI spacing and fine grain polishing will have to take a back seat until the end of stage 2. This won't take very long. The app is already running on my local devices. All that's left is to create a couple Play Store images and follow the release checklist.

Thank You

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. There's not really much to say that I haven't stated in the last two posts here and here. Thanks for using JustFitness and for your generous support.
